Herat Public Health Department in a Glance

 Herat province is located in the west of Afghanistan and its population is about 1,742,000 people. This province has 15 districts. It is located between two important commercial borders this causes to change Herat's status from an agricultural city to commercial. Some factors like poverty, illiteracy and some how injustice in social dimensions are clearly seen, that directly effect peoples' health. Deficiency of governmental system and insecure situation of private sectors reduced the coordination of community. Most of Herat people are busy with cultivation and animal husbandry and less of them are doing false employments. Moving people from villages to city and suburbs is increasing and it affects health sector. Finally Health situation is always influenced by economical and social conditions. 

How ever, health indicators have not been computed in provincial level but In National Level indicators which have been calculated are:

Life expectancy in the early stage of birth in male is 41/00 and for female is 42/00

CMR = male 258/100000 -female 256/100000

MMR = 1600/100000

These indicators set Afghanistan in the worst position in the world. The highest rate of morbidity and mortality in Herat Province is due to infectious diseases and secondly cardiovascular diseases. Besides mother and child mortality and morbidity are so mark.

We Are Expecting, Herat is going to start epidemiological transmission stage but because of social and economical obstacles in health system this process well proceed very slowly. Read more >
